BurlyMingo Heritage

Questions before you capture thousands of slides? Good.

Search the business, capture, pricing, upload, restoration, and referral answers below. If the answer depends on an unfinished feature, we say so.

Do I need to be a professional photographer?

No. BurlyMingo Heritage is open to anyone who can produce suitable digital captures and has the right to submit them.

Business model
Is there a membership fee?

No. Registration is free, and there is no recurring membership charge.

Business model
Is this a franchise?

No. You operate your own business, set your own prices, and control your own customer relationships.

Business model
Does Heritage send me customers?

BurlyMingo Heritage does not guarantee leads or customers. You market and sell your own services.

Business model
Can I charge whatever I want?

Yes. BurlyMingo Heritage charges you for restoration. Your retail pricing is your decision.

Business model
Must I use the Heritage name with my customer?

No. The restoration service may be used as a white-label backend.

Business model
Must I use VALOI?

No. The preferred portable recommendation for BurlyMingo Heritage is specifically the VALOI easy35 v2 Slide Scanning Kit, but it is guidance—not a purchase requirement. Any setup that produces suitable RAW captures may qualify.

Equipment and capture
What portable setup does Heritage recommend?

The preferred portable option for BurlyMingo Heritage is the VALOI easy35 v2 Slide Scanning Kit for mounted slides, paired with a compatible RAW camera and macro lens. It is a recommendation, not a requirement.

Equipment and capture
Do I need a modern full-frame camera?

No. A suitable RAW-capable camera and quality capture setup may be sufficient. Suitability depends on the resulting files, not the marketing category of the camera.

Equipment and capture
Can I use a film scanner?

Potentially. Scanner submissions must use a supported RAW or approved DNG ingestion profile. Rendered TIFF and other files are preflight exceptions rather than the Base Restoration minimum.

Equipment and capture
Does Heritage need the physical slides?

No. BurlyMingo Heritage receives digital files only and never needs custody of physical slides.

Equipment and capture
Who keeps the original RAW files?

The submitting partner should retain the original RAW files. BurlyMingo Heritage receives a working copy.

Equipment and capture
What happens if my capture is bad?

Unusable captures may be rejected with a clear reason and may need to be recaptured.

Equipment and capture
How does volume pricing work?

The first 2,500 accepted images are $0.35 each, the next 2,500 are $0.325 each, and images above 5,000 are $0.30 each.

Pricing
Does the lower rate apply retroactively to the whole project?

No. Each rate applies only to the portion of the project within that tier.

Pricing
Can I submit one project in batches?

Yes. Eligible batches belonging to the same end-customer collection retain cumulative project pricing. Files upload directly to private project storage.

Pricing
What is a billable image?

A billable image is an accepted, processable image submitted for Base Restoration.

Pricing
Are difficult or faded slides still billable?

Yes, when the submitted digital capture is processable. The result may be limited by the source slide.

Pricing
Can Heritage handle very large projects?

The production upload path is being built for resumable, batched transfers directly to private object storage. The website will not accept enormous form uploads or require one ZIP file.

Uploads and delivery
What if my internet connection drops?

Uploads use multipart transfer with retry and recovery. Reopen the project and reselect a file when the browser requests it; confirmed parts remain in storage.

Uploads and delivery
How long are my files retained?

The launch policy is 30 days after project completion for source copies and deliverables, with warning notices before deletion. Partners must retain their own source files.

Uploads and delivery
How will I receive restored files?

The production design uses authenticated, time-limited downloads organized by project and batch. Controlled-launch deliveries are coordinated securely per project.

Uploads and delivery
Does Base Restoration include manual Photoshop work?

No. Extensive manual repair is a separately scoped and quoted service.

Restoration
Is Base Restoration an AI enhancement?

No. Base Restoration is source-preserving and non-generative. BurlyMingo Heritage works from information present in the submitted source file and does not invent faces, objects, textures, or missing content as part of the standard service. Optional services that may synthesize or reinterpret detail are labeled separately and require explicit selection.

Restoration
Does BurlyMingo alter my original RAW file?

No. BurlyMingo receives a working copy and produces new restored derivatives. The submitting partner should retain the original source files and independent backups.

Restoration
Does Base Restoration remove dust and debris?

No. Base Restoration is non-destructive and does not silently remove captured image content. Enhanced Dust & Debris Cleanup is an opt-in, separately estimated service because stronger cleanup may also affect real image detail. Clean loose debris from the film before capture whenever possible.

Restoration
What does non-destructive Base Restoration mean?

BurlyMingo Heritage develops a working derivative and does not overwrite the submitted RAW copy. Base adjustments restore color, white balance, exposure, tone, contrast, and presentation without applying content-removing dust cleanup by default.

Restoration
Can every image be perfectly restored?

No. Results are limited by the surviving film and the submitted capture. BurlyMingo Heritage cannot recover information that no longer exists, was never captured, or was permanently destroyed.

Restoration
Can RAW capture reveal information I cannot see in the slide?

A careful high-bit-depth RAW capture may record subtle surviving tonal and color differences that are difficult to recognize during ordinary viewing, projection, a phone photograph, or a basic JPEG. It cannot recover dye information that has chemically disappeared.

Restoration
Why should slides be captured now?

Film continues to age. Better storage can slow degradation, but cannot restore information already lost. A future camera may improve, while the future slide may contain less recoverable information.

Restoration
Do you restore negatives?

Negative restoration is being validated and is not currently offered as a paid production service. Black-and-white negatives require film-base normalization and inversion. Color negatives also require orange-mask handling, channel normalization, and negative-specific quality gates; they are not processed with a simple RGB inversion.

Restoration
What happens if Heritage processing fails?

BurlyMingo Heritage will reprocess demonstrable processing failures according to the service terms.

Restoration
Does Heritage learn from project processing?

Yes. Processing necessarily creates non-public technical records such as source compatibility, restoration parameters and selections, pipeline versions, and quality outcomes. Heritage uses those records to complete projects and improve future restoration behavior. Working images remain private and follow the disclosed retention window; public display or a permanent recognizable-image corpus requires separate permission.

Restoration
Who can join the referral program?

Anyone with an eligible account may participate, subject to the current program terms.

Referrals
How much does the referral program currently pay?

The current program pays $0.05 for each qualifying Base Restoration image purchased by a directly referred account.

Referrals
Do I earn from people referred by someone I referred?

No. There are no second-level or downstream payments.

Referrals
Can I claim someone who registered without my code?

No. BurlyMingo does not research or retroactively match old accounts.

Referrals
When is a referral reward earned?

Only after BurlyMingo receives cleared payment for a qualifying transaction and the transaction remains eligible.

Referrals
Do referral rewards apply to future add-ons?

No. New services, service lines, and add-ons are not automatically eligible.

Referrals
Can the referral program change?

Yes. The program, rate, eligible services, and other terms are subject to change, suspension, replacement, or termination.
